Vanmorgen hebben we met de Letse jongeren een bezoek gebracht aan de Capellenborg. Deze school heeft Let’s Go! aangeboden enkele lessen te willen verzorgen, wat we natuurlijk erg waarderen. De eerste les werd gegeven door Roel Vinke, docent theater. Hij heette iedereen van harte welkom in vloeiend Engels (!). De docent uit Laubere die wilde ‘tolken’ bleek zelfs vaak overbodig. Hierna voerden de leerlingen van De Capellenborg twee ingestudeerde sketches op. De Letse jeugd moest vervolgens raden wat werd uitgebeeld. De optredens zagen er erg overtuigend uit. De meeste jongeren wisten vrij goed waar het verhaal om draaide. In het tweede deel van de les kon iedereen deelnemen aan allerlei sketches. Het enthousiasme was groot; er werd erg veel gelachen. Taal en afkomst maakten helemaal niet uit. Theater verbroedert .. zeker als het inlevingsvermogen zo groot is! De foto’s spreken voor zich …
Na een glaasje drinken gingen we na de pauze naar de sporthal voor het vervolg. De sportdocenten Kim Bos en Wilfred Peters hadden met enkele leerlingen een afwisselend programma samengesteld. Zo kon –onder begeleiding – worden geklommen aan de klimwand. Dit bleek voor een enkeling toch wel erg hoog en te eng. Maar er was gelukkig meer. Zo kon er ook worden getafeltennist, gezaalhockeyd, gebasketbald en gevoetbald. Al met al een mooi afwisselend programma met dank aan de Capellenborg. In De lange Slag kon alvast mooi worden omgekleed voor de optredens ’s middags in Raalte. De groep uit Laubere doet daar namelijk mee aan het Salland Festival. In de bus werden de lunchpakketten genuttigd. Nadat de dansgroep was afgezet ging de rest door naar Zwolle voor een stadswandeling.

The people in Latvia celebrated yesterday the Midsummer, it is the biggest festival in Latvia, and we say people mustn’t sleep at this night they have to makes fires, make oak crowns , eat cheese, drink beer, dance around the fire and wait for the son in the morning to have a good next year. This night is full of wonders, the young people are looking for the flower of the plant “paparde”, which has a flower only in this year. If you have a lucky and find it you will be very happy in your family life. But we a group of Latvian teachers and children didn’t make fires and didn’t dance. For us it was the evening we met our host families, what were ready to have new “sons” and “daughters” for a week. It was exciting to see our new “parents”. Some of us were a bit afraid about it, the children had so many questions: do our parents like us? Is my English good enough to understand them? Is my behavior good enough?
The Thursday the 24th of June began with a nice sunshine. The first breakfast was the first exam too. Some of us learnt something new, for example how to use the cheese knife. We make a cheese too, it is our traditional dish but we do it in a other way.
At first we visited the local school. The children of Latvia are have summer holidays for three months, but the children in Wijhe are learning . So we had a possibility to meet them and see what are they doing. We met one of the theatre classes and saw two scenes . But the best part began when we started to work together . we made some exercise and tried to “die” together in ten seconds! It was so funny!!
In the gym we met two very nice teachers and five brave assistants, who showed us how the climb the wall, play table tennis and floor ball. For some of us it was the first time to do such activities, so the children tried to take part in all of them.
In Raalte our nice group get “divorced”, the dancers of Laubere were left there and the Suntazi group went to Zwolle. Every old town had a special flair, so the old part of Zwolle was an adventure too. Old streets, churches, houses of old time and nice people of nowadays. The weather was nice because we know- if the angels are traveling the sun is laughing!
In the evening we met each other again and this time in the swimming pool. Do you think we were tired? Of course not! Maybe you saw later very happy boys and girls on the bikes who were laughing and enjoying themselves so much. Thank you very much for this great joy we had together!!
